I started reading I Am the Messenger last week and unfortunately, I only made it through the first 40 pages or so before I lost interest in the book. I haven’t read a page since. This happened the last time I picked it up, too. I’m not sure what it is exactly, I’m just not interested in the story. The characters don’t thrill me so much, either. It’s truly disappointing.
I think I might set it aside. Maybe I’ll try it again someday–third time is the charm, right?–but right now, I think it’s best I read something else. I want to stay on top of my reading goals and I’m not going to do that if I get caught up in reading a book I’m not enjoying.
Sorry, Markus Zusak. I tried, but I Am the Messenger just isn’t as good as The Book Thief.
Now there’s just one more thing I have to do: decide what I’m going to read next! This is always the hardest part.
Sounds like a good plan to me! Sorry you couldn’t get into I Am the Messenger, though. I’ve never read it, but I did think The Book Thief was very good. It’s always a shame when you love one book by an author but are disappointed by his other stuff.
It is disappointing, but oh well. You can’t like everything, right? I’m learning to give up on books I’m not interested in. There’s no sense reading a book I’m not enjoying! There are so many other books out there I could be reading instead of wasting that time.
